Thanet Matters

Just been to a meeting today where we were discussing the future of our isle for the next 20 years. I have to say I was impressed by the 'cross party ' support for our thoughts.

This place has a real future, lets not let it get held back by the inward looking Luddites who claim to speak for the majority of the population, when clearly they do not. (oops is that a bit controversial or what?)

Ken, I can certainly think of a couple of "inward looking Luddites who claim to speak for the majority of the population, when clearly they do not", hehe!

Glad the meeting was positive, can you reveal anything that was discussed?

Does this mean that you speak for the majority?

It's generally politicians who have the arrogance imagine they speak for majority.

Ken, please share with us whats planned for the next 20 years?

Are there any 1989 minutes of a 20 year vision? I can see it now;

10,000 jobs at Manston
Margate the new Alton Towers of the south
Ramsgate abandoned
Broadstairs exactly the same

Ken great to hear the council is looking to the future. I have just been reading Premier Wen Jiabao’s remarks about nothing being able to stop China UK ties so sounds good for China Gateway

Don, read the news. China's ain't gonna be expanding anywhere for a long time. The long economic march backwards.

Ken, what party were you representing at the meeting? I hear you change allegiance as often as Peter changes his camera angles

Tony, surely as an elected member (no funny comments :-)), he spaeks for the majority that voted. Surely therefore he has more right to say (if he wnted to) that he speaks for a majority, than many others that post their opinions.

Ken,
Remember how white hot the blogs glowed in the days prior to the China Gateway decision? Remember the silence after the real world had stepped in and made a decision?
Yes, some of them are a bit mad, but it's harmless entertainment and it saves going to the pub to listen to them. I'm glad TDC - both sides of the chamber - are looking forward and as a minority voice of one I say "well done".

"Pessimism and complaints will get us nowhere." these are words spoken by the Chinese Prime Minister Mr Wen as he and Gordon Brown celebrated 4 trillion yuan (£400bn) fiscal stimulus. If any of these exports and imports this cash will generate come through Manstons Cina Gateway I reacon it will be good news .So SMEG read the article http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7864245.stm and see if this news meets with your views. This recession will come to an end and I think our council is idealy placed to take advantage when it does.

oops it is me with the conspiracy theories.

Ken, are these thoughts going to be radical or more of the same. Will they be bold or another false dawn. Or is it going to be the fault of those dammed Luddites.

Have you joined the Communist Party yet, Tony?

With China Gateway 106 yes but still no drainage plan, until Ken or someone else can tell us where the surface drainage goes it can’t happen, CGP’s shares last traded at 10p could unrealistic promises made to them have had something to do with this. Balancing ponds have been mandatory for all the other developments, the airport operator says no more balancing pond because of waterfowl getting into engines, the EA say it can’t go into Pegwell bay, current discharge has caused desalination to the extent that marine life is dying there.

Any one got any answers?
